The Hamburg-based Ensemble Resonanz is one of the world’s most innovative string orchestras. They are as likely to find a basis for experimentation in old music – even Bach’s Christmas Oratorio – as in electronic dance music. They made their home in a World War Two bunker, which has become a key venue of Hamburg’s effervescent artistic life.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s most talented composer son, Carl Philipp Emanuel is closely associated with the city’s musical history. Besides the works of father and son, the Ensemble Resonanz’s concert also features a piece by Toshio Hosokawa, the Japanese-born composer of the Berlin Academy of Arts, which will open a deeply spiritual musical cosmos beyond time.
An event jointly organized with Liszt Academy.
