In 2024, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra returned to perform at Müpa Budapest. The night was one big party. Was it what we would call folk punk? Balkan rollicking? Categories are meaningless. Kusturica is very consistent in his use of music in his films. (Sometimes the songs even become hits.)

Like Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese is passionately in love with New York City. There is no doubt, however, that Scorsese sees a different city. His is dirtier, edgier, and slightly more full of crime and criminals. Scorsese’s home turf is Little Italy, in Lower Manhattan. On the other hand, New York, New York clearly shows that the two are both jazz fans.

The musical that inspired the film had already gained its own cult following in theatres as early as 1973. This is a parody that draws its humour from sci-fi and horror films.

Volt idő, amikor a magyar fiatalság az Illés, a Metró, az Olympia, az Omega és Tolcsvayék számaiért rajongott, de a magyar beatmozgalomnak nemcsak lelkes hívei, hanem elszánt ellenzői is voltak. Kovács András filmrendező 1969-es filmjében feltárta a jelenséget, megszólaltatva mindkét felet, s nem utolsósorban a zenekarokat és tagjaikat is.

A II. világháború alatt egy angol nehézbombázót a német légelhárítás lelő Párizs felett. Legénysége ejtőernyővel menekül, de a megszállt városban mindenki őket üldözi. Egyikük a német főhadiszállás épületén landol egy festőállványon, másikuknak az állatkertben sikerül földet érnie, a harmadiknak pedig az Operaház tetején. A németek elől bujkáló briteket végül két, kissé kelekótya francia, - egy karmester és egy festő - veszi pártfogásába. Feladatuk, hogy angol barátaikat kijuttassák a szabad zónába. Ez azonban nem is olyan könnyű.
