Now in its seventh edition, the MiraTone Festival and Academy – founded by violinist Miranda Liu – has become one of Central Europe’s most vibrant classical music events. Each year, it brings together internationally acclaimed artists and passionate young musicians in the heart of Budapest.
The concert titled “Whispers and Tales” draws inspiration from the stillness of nature and the world of fantasy. The evening opens with Bohuslav Martinů’s Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano, a neoclassical work influenced by Poulenc and Stravinsky, enriched with lush tonal colors reminiscent of Debussy. This is followed by two of Dvořák’s works for cello and piano: Silent Woods, with its touching simplicity and evocative melodies, conjures the tranquil beauty of nature, while the virtuosic Rondo in G minor showcases the cello’s expressive and technical brilliance. Leoš Janáček’s Fairy Tale is a musical rendering of a Russian folk story—an enchanting composition with dreamlike atmospheres and mysterious twists.
After the intermission, the evening concludes with Brahms’s String Sextet No. 2 in G major—a true masterpiece of the Romantic period. The expanded string instrumentation creates a rich, resonant soundscape where classical form and passionate lyricism meet in perfect balance. Haruka Nagao and Tomáš Jamník join the international members of the V4 String Quartet to form this exceptional ensemble, bringing the evening to a magnificent musical climax.
